{"id":82,"date":"2020-09-23T16:48:36","date_gmt":"2020-09-23T15:48:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mrunderwood.co.uk\/dev\/?page_id=82"},"modified":"2020-09-28T14:30:18","modified_gmt":"2020-09-28T13:30:18","slug":"resonator-gongs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.mrunderwood.co.uk\/research\/on-the-bench\/resonator-gongs\/","title":{"rendered":"Resonator gongs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The project that emerged from my <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ocmevents.org\/boom\" target=\"_blank\">BOOM <\/a>year, saw the replacement of the PA speakers my band <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oretubadoom.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">ORE <\/a>had traditionally used for amplification and effects with two large resonator gongs that process the sound of our brass instruments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The audio signal from our instruments is amplified and then driven into a point on each gong. The position of the drivers was chosen to offer the best response to the range and tone of each instrument. This creates effects including minimal near-acoustic sound processing, heavy bass, and a sound that is awash with complex metallic shimmering.
