This week, we made some snazzy tumbler wheels for the unit. Applying my scraping knowledge from making the tin scraper box, I used hammered sheet metal to make a texture which worked with a chain. It turns out to go very well, making a Cabasa sound. A couple more chains of different sizes would be nice to try out here...

I hammered the sheet metal against a large threaded bar until it was all imprinted. I really like this repeat stamping effect because it has a homogeneous style of depth and bump direction, but where it overlaps and misalignes, there is a lovely natural randomness added to the sound, making it less rhythmic and more noise like.
